Week 14

Buenos Dias a todos!!

What's good everybody. You already know what time it is. It's your favorite email of the week! I know you all are just on the edge of your seat every Monday! Hahaha I'm just kidding! I promise that I'm humble.

This week was actually a pretty good week! After I sent my email last week we had an amazing family home evening with this family were teaching! They're so awesome and they have been progressing! We had a lot of times this week also where we had asked people if they were ready to get baptized. They all said no, but we got them to start thinking about it! That is all that matters. I've been getting a lot better at teaching and testifying so now I can pretty much hold my own ground. With my new companion after 9 I usually try to be alone as long as possible. Not the point, but during these times I've been able to practice teaching these lessons and learn new ways of teaching. My scriptures are marked up and look like I had a 6 year old color on them... but I like it.

A cool but kind of sad experience this week I had went like this...

So as were walking back from our apartment because No one was answering their doors I see a lady. She's walking kind of towards us and I had already looked at her so it would be awkward if I didn't say anything.

"Hey! How are you doin?" I said.

No response.

She continues to walk towards us and I realize she is almost running. The closer she gets the more I can see that she's crying. She comes up to us and stops about 5 feet away.

"The missionaries! The missionaries! They're real! They're here!"

"Of course we are. How can we help you?"

"I'm an alcoholic."

*Woah what? Did she really just tell an 18 year old boy that she is struggling with an alcohol addiction?*

"Thank you for sharing that with us. That was really brave. We'd love to help you."

"Okay. Thank you. I want to stop"

"Of course. Christ is here for you. Now come over here and sit down so we can talk more."

That is pretty much the meat of this story. This woman began to explain to us her struggle with alcohol and how she wants to stop. We set up a visit with her to talk about it more!

So we visit about 2 days later. We come into her home and she gives us her back story. She explains how she used to live in Draper (yooo I'm from there), she has a son who's adorable, stole a car, was in prison, and is a member of the church! What a good conversation we had. We prayed with her, read scriptures, talked about Christ, and it was awesome. We then asked her if she had any other alcohol in the house she was at or in her car. She said that she had wine in her car.

"Lets go get it, Elder."

I'm sitting there like what the heck you want me to go grab wine out of her car right now? We walk to her car and grab the wine. I say this...

"Alright. Go smash the wine bottle and throw it away."

YOO WHY DID I SAY THAT?!?!?! THE SPIRIT IS SO STRONG!!

We go to this dumpster and she smashes the wine bottle. It was so awesome she was so happy! We return back to the apartment, pray some more and leave.

That's pretty much the whole story! Unfortunately, she ran away from her apartment and her roommate is kicking her out. Yeah I know super sad, but me and my companion have kept trying.

My week was filled with crying, laughing, reading, teaching, Latin dancing, and fun. My days here on the mission sometimes can be really hard. However, I've never been more sure of where I need to be. For so many reasons, that story I shared affirmed to me that my Heavenly Father has me here for a reason. I need to stick with it and trust in him. I hope hope all are doing well! Feel free to reach out to me. Be safe!
