Week 42
Muy buenos días!!!
I hope you all are doing well. This week was a BLAST and a great way to end the transfer strong. The weather here in Carson City is a little weird. I won't lie to ya, but I'll take this over blazing hot! I hope all of you had a great week and I'll just get right into it!
I'm sure you all are dying to know once more... Where is Élder LaTour going? Is he staying in Carson City? Is he off to another area to bring others closer to Christ? Is he going to be transferred to a foreign country because his Spanish is so good? I'm afraid to tell you that only one of these answers is correct. I'm staying in Carson City baby! That's right, I'm spending my summer here and I couldn't be more happy about it! However, I can't say the same for my companion. After 3 fun, tiring, crazy, and interesting transfers I'm afraid Élder Loria is leaving. He was so awesome and I definitely think him and I will be friends after the mission! He is going to my dream area up in Sparks to teach the latino people over there. Now I'm sure you're DYING to know, who is his next companion? Is it a cool dude? Is it a trainee? A general authority? I also will say that only one of these is correct. My companion's name is Élder LaDeaux! It's cool because our last names kinda have that funky "La" at the beginning. He has been the AP for the mission these past few transfers, and so that being that makes him and I the new ZLs here in Carson City! I got a call just Sunday morning saying I'd be the new ZL over the Carson City zone. I'm super excited to help the missionaries here and be with my new companion on Wednesday! That was a lot but I hope you enjoyed reading a bit of it!
This week Élder Loria got the "leaving the area blues" so I did a lot of teaching and finding this week. I don't blame him, when you know you're leaving an area it can be hard to find the motivation to teach. However, any missionary reading this, don't do it or you're mega lame. You gotta grind even if you leave! We found 7 people this week and it's been a while since we had done that. I was super happy to talk to so many people too. Not everyone was very nice, wanted to talk with us, gosh even look in our direction, but I still wanted to walk around with a smile because I know this Gospel is true!!
Cool experience I had just yesterday! For Fast Sunday I decided to fast for someone to come to church. We haven't had someone attend church In a long time so it was a goal I wanted to hit. As we went throughout our Sunday we gave one of our good friends Marcos a call. He said he'd come! I remember thinking, "Man, that was easy. Thank you Heavenly Father!" pretty silly of me to think that but he came and I remembered he didn't speak any Spanish. We ended up Translating for him the entire meeting! One of the members helped us out a lot but it was some good practice for my Spanish! Then, out of nowhere Abel showed up and was at church! He came and plopped down right next to us after we blessed the sacrament. Then I thought, "Wow! He is just plopping it right on my lap!" It was so awesome to see him! He was telling us that ever since he stopped reading the Book of Mormon that his life has been turned upside down again. He goes, "Once I started reading the Book of Mormon... The money came in, waking up became easier, I worked out more, my legal stuff worked out... That book has some power!" Oh it sure does Abel! What a cool miracle and blessing you can plainly see from simply reading from The Book of Mormon!
Had a fantastic bit of personal studies this week focusing a lot on the cycle of pride that our human nature causes us to fall into. A lot of the reason comes from the worldly distractions that have been increasing as time goes on. I was pondering on the best way to remember God in all things, not just the bad but the good. I want to start by only saying a prayer of thanks everyday for this upcoming week to see what difference it can make in my gratitude. If you guys would like, please join me in this challenge! I can promise you that if you give thanks even when things are good in your life, you will feel that love that God has for you and you will continue to receive those blessings He has bestowed upon you.
It was another great week and I'm excited for a new one! Our mission is beginning to limit Facebook usage really heavily so I most likely will not be able to see posts for a while until we get it again. Just wanted to let yall know because if you reach out on Facebook I won't be able to see it! It's a good thing because summer time is grind time! If any other changes happen I'll let you guys know so if you're interested in contacting me you can know how. I hope you all have a fantastic week and if you ever need anything, I'm an email away! Love you all!
