Week 51
Buena mi gente! Pasa algo?
I'm running out of new spanish slang to throw at yall at the beginning of my emails. If any of yall know any more please help an Élder out. I hope all of you had a super solid week! Man being a missionary is so amazing. We had some awesome miracles happen to us this week. I have been noticing a lot recently how often Heavenly Father has been involved in all of this work. It has been a journey to recognize His hand more in my life, and don't get me wrong I am still working on it, but a mission has 100% helped me recognize Him more.
This week, like I said, was filled with miracles. We got rain! It has been the first time in a while that we have got it, so everyone and their dog here in Nevada was singing from their rooftops. Of course, they got all soaked because it was raining, but hey less sagebrush and more grass!!! As we were driving I literally saw just massive puddles scattered throughout town because they literally never get this amount of rain. We worked pretty hard this week and I have been really amazed with the outcomes we have had!
Quick story for y'all! We have this awesome friend named Raymundo who is progressing. He just told us today that he has been reading the Book of Mormon and been praying about it! He still hasn't received an answer but he is determined to read it. However, there is a big twist with this guy. He has a friend who is always drunk. Not kidding, I have never met this guy sober. We always come over and have such a bomb lesson with him, but his friend is just in another world or something. We were teaching him with a member just a few days ago and the member goes, "Tu tiempo ya se acabó'' which means, "Homie, your time is up and you need to stop talking." Well, anyone who actually speaks Spanish knows that is not the literal translation but that is what we try to say with him. He ends his prayers too with, "K bye" I love being a missionary so much, it is worth every single moment!
I had two exchanges this past week and man they were so much fun! I will tell yall a little bit about them!
- The first one was with Élder Kesler and man he is awesome! He is a brand new missionary and blew me away! He was super outgoing and was really wanting to work. So you all know me, I put him to work! We walked around spring creek which was a blast. Each property has like 2 or 3 acres so we walked house to house and my legs were burning and I was sweating! That is where all the fun lies, because now I don't have to do leg day! We found someone that they hadn't talked to in a while, and he is very interested in the Gospel! We sat down with him and had a good conversation about his life and everything and just showed a genuine interest to know who Christ is to him. We were really excited and I am yet to hear back how the next lesson went. It was a good time with him!
- The second one was with my boy Élder Anderson! If you are an avid reader of my emails, which I hope you are, then you would know that this is one of my favorite missionaries. He lived with me in Carson City and he and I really clicked! He came up here to Elko with me and he is the District Leader here so we went on exchanges. We had a BLAST and we worked really hard. We went to Costa Vida (I know, I am so happy they have one here) and we had 4 people offer to pay for our food and I was blown away! So many nice people here in Elko! On the contrary, we met these two very drunk men outside and had the weirdest Interaction. We came up to them and literally said, "Hi" and next thing we know we are locked into a 15 minute ramble about a bunch of silly stuff. They invited us in and I was literally thinking the entire time, "I either die in here, or we come out heroes." I was thinking that in order to get out we'd have to sneak out like mission impossible type style, but I just said we had to leave and we left haha. Overall, good exchanges! It's super cool to be able to work with other missionaries and get a feel of how I can improve and be better!
I have learned so much these past 51 weeks of my mission. This week I finished the Book of Mormon again! Man, it Is incredible. The spirit I feel when I read it is very strong! The promise at the end of the Book of Mormon is so amazing, and I applied it again once I finished it! I can say happily that I was one again reaffirmed of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I'd love to invite you all to do the same! If it has been a while since you've read it, pick it up right now. Read some of it. It will change your life and can right now. I've been trying to gain a better testimony of the Restoration and how it came about. I've been studying a lot, and man I feel like Jimmy neutron. It's amazing to see how much my comprehension skills have improved, my ability to actually sit down and focus for 1 hour, and even my handwriting! I'm grateful for my mission and everything that I've been blessed with. I hope all of you have had a fantastic week!
Moroni 10:30 - And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.
