Week 57

Pues, que pasó esta semana?

Man, this was a week. I wish I could express more of what I mean by that... it can be hard to do that over the phone so hopefully you all get what I mean. It was a successful week! It was tiring but really good. The weather is starting to cool down and we even saw a few days of rain here so the people of Elko are super happy! I have been reflecting this past week of the role of a missionary today and back then in the time of Christ and even beforehand. Missionaries play such an important role and brining the knowledge of the Savior to others that may not know Him! I am very privileged to be here and be a part of this work. Now, let's get into some highlights of what happened this past week here in Elko, Nevada!

First and most important, our awesome friend Axel was baptized! Man, it was so awesome to see everything pan out the way it did. We had so many problems come up. We couldn't do it in the river because of the rain, the people who were going to be apart of it had to cancel, times were switched over and over, and the church building we had it planned at already had a baptism going on. So many problems and it seemed so hopeless for a moment, but by the greatness of the God of Miracles you and I know, everything worked out great and it went through. He is excited to continue progressing and getting his parents baptized!

Élder Rawlings and I this past week had some awesome inspiration and great contacts with the people here in Elko. We visited this one family that hasn't been visited by the missionaries in a while and man it was so cool! Had a great lesson and they invited us to their daughters graduation party. Fast forward, we go and the food was INCREÍBLE! We had carne asada tacos that would blow your mind. We just got to know a bunch of latino people in the area and may or may not have dance to some banda music...

Just early tonight we had a fantastic lesson with raymundo again. He has been someone who's been progressing a lot. He's come to church for 3 or 4 weeks in a row, having lessons twice a week, it's so awesome! I hope you're not sick of me talking about him because he is going to be baptized asap no Rocky, and tonight was proof. We read from the Bible and the Book of Mormon to explain more of how they work together. We read in Matthew 3:14-15 and in 2 Nephi 31:5-7. It was a great example for him and he really enjoyed it. Near the end, his friend Humberto who is drunk 24/7 (not even joking) looked at us and continued to tell us again he knew how to speak Chinese. I asked him how to say, "Sir or Majesty" in Chinese. He looks at the ground, thinks for a minute... Looks at me dead in the face and utters straight jibberish. We all busted out laughing it was easily the funniest thing I've been apart of in a while.

Just this last week I was able to study about the attributes of Christ that are found in Preach my Gospel. There were a lot that I absolutely loved and the one that stuck out to me was Knowledge. Growing up my whole life all I wanted was knowledge. I wanted to be smart, learn easily, do hardly no work, and all that egotistical stuff. However when I read this description I realized that it's a privilege to work for knowledge. The process of learning in of itself is an honor and privilege. We are here to learn and grow and become someone new through Jesus Christ. When we study too, we obviously need to act and read and ponder... But we also need to have faith. I am so grateful for the Knowledge I have and the gift of understanding I've been given.

This Gospel is amazing. Missionary work, even more so. I love being here and getting to know these people here In Elko. My companion goes home here at the end of the transfer and everytime he mentions it I am not jealous. Missionary work gets me pumped up, motivated, and ready for what's now and what lies ahead. I hope you all had a great week and were able to understand a little bit of my ramble hahaha. If you ever need it, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Yall are amazing, have a great week, y cuidanse mucho!

2 Nephi 25:26 - And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.
