Week 64
Que lo que?!
Man running it back with another email already? This week has gone by super fast holy smokes! Élder Kroff and I had a really good time so I am grateful for that. Sometimes on the mission it feels like some weeks are just action packed and success left and right... and others not so much. However, this last week we were very blessed! Man, I can't say it enough but I just love being a missionary!
It is getting very very cold over here in Elko. It is one of the coldest parts of the mission I think. I go outside to try to visit someone past 6 and it's like, "oh I forgot to put on 4 jackets, gloves..." so I miss the summer that's for sure. However, you'd be surprised how many people are down to let us in because it's cold outside! That was very comforting to me this week and it's cool because we already are in their homes!
Élder Kroff and I this week had a little goal thing going on and it was to give everyone new we met a Book of Mormon! We weren't flawless, but we gave out a lot of them and man I will tell ya, there isn't a better feeling. It's so awesome to give them the literal evidence of the Restoration and to have them look into it and pray about it! When we both Testify of it there is an undeniable spirit that's there and I have loved doing this. We have seen some cool miracles happen from this and even just last night this dude was outside in the cold windy storm with shorts and a tank top. He said he was outside for a quick smoke, but we ended up talking and giving him a Book of Mormon! He was so grateful and it was awesome to just give someone that opportunity to learn more about Jesus Christ!
George got baptized this week! Super super awesome. He is an incredible man and truly has the desire to get closer to his Savior! We were able to teach him more this past week and also to be able to get all of the logistical stuff set up. I love the stress of a baptism, couldn't be a better thing to be worried about! It was really cool when he was put under the water and afterwards came up. I was filled oddly with a lot of emotion and it almost showed. It's just so cool to see that someone new had just bound himself to their Savior and made that covenant. I wish you could all meet George because he truly is just pure at heart and so willing to move forward with his life.
I can say this week was good. These past few have been a bit harder, but that's okay. Things are meant to be hard sometimes... Otherwise I wouldn't learn and grow. I listened to one of my favorite speeches given by Jeffery R. Holland, "Remember Lot's Wife" just the other day and I was reminded of the importance of faith pointing towards the future. I highly recommend listening to it when you have the time and get your pen and notebook so you can note your impressions! Amazing insight and can always give me motivation when I feel down.
Just a quick spiritual thought if you don't mind, I am a missionary after all. I think one of the few things I've been struggling with can be identified fairly easily, and it's my desire to be perfect. I know what you're saying, "Oh my gosh Élder LaTour no! It's only the Savior who is perfect!" Yes, you're very very true. However, my brain and the natural man within me desires too badly to be perfect and to never make a mistake. It is so frustrating to me when I do something wrong or I don't know what to do. I have come so far from where I used to be concerning this weakness, but this week it was brought to light that I don't need to be perfect myself, but I can be made perfect in Christ. I lean on Him for perfection and He can guide me and help me. Quick little thought for you all. Remember that He is perfect so you can be too.
Have a great week y'all! It's crazy it's November already. Thanksgiving is coming up and I can't wait to be as thankful as I can be! Hope all is well and please feel free to drop an email to me or anything! Be safe!
Mosíah 24:14 - And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions
