Week 65
Que lo que?!
Oh boy the mission doesn't stay the same for one week. It's been an absolute Rollercoaster once again hahaha. You know I kind of like it so it's not too bad! Élder Kroff and I had a good week I will admit. We had some cool lessons and experiences so I can't complain one bit!
Listen, Elko is freezing and I can't stand it. Every single day the high is like 26 degrees. One morning I walked outside to "test" the cold... -1°. When we go out and tract I have thermals on, two sweaters, and a jacket/beanie combo. It's so crazy to me because it's literally a desert out here and yet it gets insanely cold. Apparently, it's supposed to get much colder so I guess I should be excited! Elko Nevada everyone.
One day as Élder Kroff and I were walking in this trailer park that I swear we go to everyday, we came across this one lady. We of course said hi and she responds with the classic, "Hola, cómo están ustedes?" We talked for a second and I think she was sick of the cold so she asked us if we wanted to come in and have dinner with her and her family. We of course said yes because anything she has is better than what I can cook. As we try to go in, this dog jumps up and attempts to quite literally rip my hand off. I'm sitting there confused because I don't want to get mauled by this dog, but I'm also really hungry. She comes out and basically throws the dog in a corner and guards us from him, so sick. We had a fantastic lesson! We had carne asada tacos and talked about the Book of Mormon, what could be better? We also forgot what she said her name was so we called her Abuela until we went back and asked again.
Some rather unfortunate news, your boy Élder LaTour has covid. Yeah, it sucks. Just a few days ago I had a pretty bad sore throat and it carried for two days and it was pretty bad. I decided I wouldn't call the mission doctor because I figured I was just being wimpy and I could keep going out and work. Well, the Elders in my district took that seriously so they threw me on the bikes for the day and man did I prove to them I was sick. It was so tough and even worse the bike tire got a hole in it so we had to walk 10+ to appointments, all while I had covid. I wouldn't trade it for anything though because I definitely wanted to keep working and still do. Yesterday I took the test and it came positive so now we have to quarantine for 5 days since I got symptoms and I can leave the house Wednesday if I feel better, if not... 5 more days. We've been making a lot of calls and I'm sure we will make a lot more in the next few days haha.
I love being a missionary. I think I say this a lot and you all are probably sick of me saying it but it's true. Everyday I have the amazing privilege of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I can't think of anything better. I've seen so many lives change because of Him, I've even seen it in my own life and it just sends me through the roof to know I can do the same for someone else. This week I made it a goal to read a story of Jesus Christ or a parable He taught every single day. My favorite one I've read this week was when Peter came walking on the water with Him. I could really go deep into the story but I'll just add a thought of how truly focused we need to be on the Savior, especially now. We are in a world full of calamity and craziness with standards changing every single day. The world is going in a weird course, just like the storms I'm sure Peter was in. However, he had faith in Him and was completely focused on Him, and he did something impossible... Walking on water. We too when we focus on the Savior can do things that seem impossible. However, if we lose focus then we too can sink as Peter did. Luckily, The Savior has that name for a reason, because He will always save us when we sink.
Little spiel at the end of my weekly for ya! I hope you all are well and if you guys need anything please feel free to reach out! It's going to be a different week coming up for sure as I'm still in quarantine, but we found out transfer news this Sunday so I'm excited! Have a good week! Be safe!
Alma 5:33 - Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.
